What it is
A Megaflo is an unvented hot-water cylinder. It heats, stores and delivers water at mains pressure, so more than one shower, bath or tap can run at the same time. It replaces the old-style hot-water tank with one floor-standing unit that can go in a variety of places around the home.
Why people choose one
As described by Megaflo, the manufacturer.
Hot water performance without shower pumps or tanks, even at low pressures.
Made from high-grade duplex stainless steel, which resists corrosion.
60mm of injected foam insulation, for heat retention and energy efficiency.
Indirect models use a coil-in-coil heat exchanger for fast recovery times.
An internal expansion system saves space, with pre-plumbed and pre-wired options.

Annual service
An unvented cylinder stores water in a sealed vessel under pressure and at high temperature, so it needs a service every year, just like your gas boiler. Among other things, the service tests the safety valves that operate if there is a fault.
Unvented cylinders must be fitted by someone with the G3 unvented hot water qualification. A qualified installer holds a BPEC Unvented G3 certificate: ask to see it.
